The story of Lister Petter begins with two separate British firms, one in agriculture and one in ironmongery, both building customer-focused products. Each created its first internal combustion engine in 1902: Petter developed an oil engine for automotive use, while Lister developed a petrol engine for agriculture. Their shared success and instinct for innovation eventually brought them together.

Forming a Powerhouse

After acquiring Petter in 1957 and Lister in 1965, Hawker Siddeley brought the two together to form the Lister Petter company in 1986, which carried on producing high-quality industrial engines.
